Family - The Rock's

I love getting to catch up with old friends and especially getting to capture their sweet families on camera. What a doll little Suzie is! Who can not help but fall for her sweet face and gorgeous eyes! So excited the Rock's are back in Tulsa!

FHE - Listening

So tonight we had a quick FHE and it turned out really fun. Sienna loved talking about how she listens (to her teacher and mommy and daddy). She also loved getting out her little children's hymn book and finding the song to sing. "Simon says" was a big hit with her too! I love her so much! Logan just crawled around on the floor and occasionally looked at us and wondered what we were doing. Lots of fun! Oh, and we missed you daddy! He was off working hard at school (homework is never ending).

Family Home Evening Lesson
I Can Learn to Listen and Obey

Opening Song: “Listen, Listen” (Children’s Song Book # 107)

Opening Prayer: Sienna

Lesson: Mommy

I Can Learn to Listen and Obey

Scripture: Ephesians 6:1
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

Story: Use the story of the “2000 Young Warriors” or your gospel art kit picture 313 and read the story on the back.

Activity: Play a game that require the children to listen and obey directions from the leader like “Simon Says”, or sing “Do as I’m Doing” (Children’s Song Book # 278) or some other following game. Discuss the difference between following these kinds of directions and following the directions of your parents, prophets or leaders.

Closing Song: “Quickly I’ll Obey” (Children’s Song Book # 197)

Closing Prayer: Mommy

FHE - Being a sunbeam

Spending time as a family is very important! I very much am passionate about teaching my children good values, principles and most of all about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and who he is and was. If they get this throughout their life as they enter young adulthood I feel like they are better equip to make good choices and become who they want to be. Family Home Evening is an awesome way to spend time together, to learn together and play together. We try to have it one night a week :-)
Tonight we had to have our first family home evening (FHE) without our daddy (Brian). He was at school. Sad day. I didn't want to miss it this week though. It was over being a sunbeam and what that means. Sienna loved it, especially drawing sun's and cutting a hole for our faces so we could be sunbeams. She also loved singing the song "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam". It was a simple and sweet lesson. Below is where the idea for this lesson came from. I so love this sweet little face!

FHE Lesson {Jesus wants me for Sunbeam}

This lesson inspired by June 2010 Friend Magazine page 3

Opening Song: Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam #60

Opening Prayer: Child

Lesson:

Jesus wants me for a sunbeam {Sing or play song, or youtube - like this one}

What does this song mean?

How can we be a sunbeam?

What does the sun do?  {Provides warmth, makes things grow, makes daylight, Shines}

How can we use these definitions of Sun in our lives?
{Be kind, helpful, help others to learn (and grow), have a happy smile to warm others, shine -through our talents, give hugs, bring sunshine into the lives of all around us}

Activity:
Draw/Collage a big sun with some sunbeams coming off it.
In the sunbeams write down some ways the children will try to be a Sunbeam for Jesus this week.

Have each Child make their own sun drawing/picture. Glue a picture of them in the middle.
Write in the sunbeams service they will do for others.

Make a sun picture with a circle cut out of the middle
{like a yellow wreath, zig zaggy edges, can use a paper plate}}
As you sing the song have each child hold up the sun in front of their face in turn.
They are the Sun/beam.

Alternatively stick a drawn sun with hole in middle around a handheld mirror and each child can look at themselves while the song plays.

Closing Song:

Closing Prayer:

Treat: orange/yellow foods, decorate round biscuits/cookies with yellow icing.
